The hospitality industry is facing a growing disconnect between graduate aspirations and employer expectations. Drawing on new research from Regent's University London, this article examines the emerging "readiness gap" that is preventing many hospitality graduates from successfully transitioning into professional roles. Findings reveal that 80% of hospitality recruiters have passed over graduates due to concerns regarding work readiness, with soft skills, professional maturity, and practical industry experience identified as the primary deficiencies. While graduates possess strong theoretical knowledge and motivation, employers increasingly prioritise attributes such as communication, accountability, decision-making, resilience, and emotional intelligence.
