This book offers an integrative and practical approach to understanding and working therapeutically with sexual and relationship difficulties.
Drawing on sexology, systemic psychotherapy and social constructionist perspectives, the book explores how sexual concerns are shaped not only by individual psychological and physiological factors, but also by relationships, culture, gender, sexuality, social expectations and personal meanings. It introduces Multidimensional Open-minded Sex Therapy (MOST), a framework designed to help practitioners assess and work with sexual difficulties across interconnected physical, emotional, cognitive, behavioural, relational and sociocultural dimensions.
The book addresses common sexual difficulties and dysfunctions, sexual myths and misconceptions, diversity and difference, assessment, therapeutic interventions and the challenges practitioners may experience when discussing sexuality with clients. Clinical examples and case material illustrate how theoretical concepts can be translated into therapeutic practice.
Written for psychotherapists, counsellors, sex therapists, psychologists and students, the book encourages an open-minded, inclusive and non-pathologising approach to sexuality. It aims to increase practitioners' confidence in discussing sexual concerns and to support thoughtful, ethically informed clinical practice.
