- Abstract
- As a developed country, Austria is prone to industrial espionage and other types of attack that can weaken its competitive advantage. With the increased use of the Internet to promote efficiency in the industrial sector, Austrian companies face the difficulty of assessing cyber risks. The growing complexity of cyber threats has led companies to realize that traditional risk assessment methods might be out-dated to compete with an undefined era of attacks. In addition to that, cyber risks stretch well beyond tangible risks and the damage caused by them can range from information loss to bankruptcy. Subsequently managers from all business areas need to cooperate with the IT department to define valuable solutions to protect their secure information. This interpretivist, inductive research is meant to acquaint the reader with existent protection and risk quantification methods, providing detailed descriptions and explanations. Furthermore, in-depth interviews will provide the reader with a sound understanding of the most popular types of attack and the most successful protection tools, such as employee training, communication, risk definition and technology.
