- Abstract
- The following study focuses on the importance revolving around the financing of German start-ups. It will investigate the role of funding of tech start-ups in Germany. Further analysis will show the changes in preference of tech start-ups over the course of growth. Different stages of growth within a start-up require different types of funding, therefore this dissertation will investigate what type is mostly used and mostly preferred by the start-ups. Hypothetically, start-ups are more focused on obtaining venture capital investments whereas crowdfunding investments is less desirable but is rising in popularity. Majorly secondary research will help in order to gather appropriate information and data. Primary research is of less important use as the limit of time will hinder valuable results from a primary approach. Analytical skills and the use of Microsoft Excel database analysis will help in analysing and identifying relevant and adequate use of the gathered data. Findings have shown that Germany is getting more attractive for start-ups as the start up costs are relatively low and living costs as well. Additionally, start-ups are majorly funded with founders money and prefer to be less depended on interest payments but rather focus their time on creativity and design. The analysis has shown that venture capital investment is the most preferable when looking at the total value of investment made from each source. Venture capital investment offers more than just money, it provides the start-up with necessary network opportunities and professional institutional consulting, due to the shared interest of investor and founder in the success of the company. Ultimately, the results have supported the hypothetical statement and rejected the null hypothesis.
