- Abstract
- Considerable progress has been made on corporate sustainability management, and a better understanding of how the ESG rating affects the cost of funding could help managers in decision making processes of financing their business. This explanatory research has the intention of analysing the relation between firm’s ESG performances and the cost of funding for the main blue-chip companies in the STOXX Europe 50 in a large sample panel comprehensive of 14 years. It highlights how the usage of sustainable ratings can alter the business risk, with high efficiency and access of cheap capital, with a consequent firm value maximization. To do it many multiple regressions have been run and panel data set over a cross section have been used through quantitative secondary data gathered using Thomson Reuters database. From this paper we can understand that a greater environmental, social and governance commitment embodies a higher transparency thus a lower risk, in other words, a cheaper cost of funding for business’s capital.
