- Abstract
- This book begins with the days when the Apostles set out, obeying their orders to 'Go forth into the world and teach all peoples...' and ends in the early Middle Ages, when, the spreading of the gospel to almost all the countries of the Old World, the new Europe begins to develop. Peter Bamm tells of saints and martyrs, of Christianity marching to victory in imperial Rome, of the centuries when the new faith was transcendent in Byzantium. The author spreads before us an enormous array of facts, gives new meaning to old legends, and tell us half-forgotten, scarcely known, and astonishingly topical things about people, the times, and the sites of early Christianity.
