- Abstract
- Bedford was the first college for the higher education of women in Britain. Its colours were the colours of the suffragettes. Its professors included world-famous figures; its graduates went on to make major contributions in the arts and sciences, and in the professions. This volume of essays commemorates the 150th anniversary of Bedford's foundation. Twenty chapters range across the history of the College, its contribution to research and teaching, and the more recent story of its amalgamation with Royal Holloway College to form a major constituent of the University of London under the name Royal Holloway and Bedford New College. 2022
