Abstract

In a post-Brexit landscape, the teaching of languages alongside other degrees or Institution-Wide Language Provision (IWLP) at UK universities remains stable, and learning languages, whether for self-development or for utilitarian reasons, continues to add value to non-specialist language learners. Furthermore, it is generally accepted that language learning is intrinsically linked to employability. This chapter aims to explore to what extent language study has been beneficial for the employment of a group of non-language specialists and whether they see themselves as global graduates as a result of their multilingual competence. To that purpose, this chapter discusses a case study on the experiences of two types of Regent’s University London graduates: some from a BA in International Business with three years of language study and some from degrees in arts, humanities, and other social sciences, with at least three semesters of language.
