Amparo Lallana is an Associate Professor and Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy whose research centres on language learning, intercultural communication, and multilingualism. Her work has examined the developmental impact of study abroad beyond language acquisition, the employability skills fostered through language learning, and language learners’ engagement with computer-mediated communication (CMC).

Her latest research focuses on Online Intercultural Exchanges (OIEs), the development of Intercultural Communicative Competence (ICC) among language teachers and learners, and the influence of multilingualism on graduate mobility and employability. Her publications in these areas have contributed to advancing understanding of the broader social, cultural, and professional dimensions of language education.

Amparo is a founding member of ELEUK, the Association for the Teaching and Learning of Spanish in Higher Education in the UK, which she chaired until 2019. She has held a range of academic leadership and management roles in higher education and currently serves as Director of Programmes (Languages) at Regent’s University London.

Alongside her research and leadership activities, she has substantial teaching experience in Spanish language, sociolinguistics, intercultural communication, and interdisciplinary studies. In addition to the United Kingdom, she has taught in Spain and the United States.
